To make the most of your Botox treatment, there are a few important rules to follow before and after receiving a Botox treatment.
Stop Taking Blood Thinners
To avoid bruising, be sure you aren’t taking blood-thinning agents a week prior to your appointment. This includes NSAIDS like Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Ibuprofen and Naproxen. You may also want to avoid taking supplements that contain vitamin E, fish oil, ginkgo, and garlic.
Avoid Alcohol
Although there is no definitive proof that having alcohol can affect the results of your Botox treatment, it is a good idea not to indulge in alcohol consumption prior to your treatment. It will also increase the likelihood of bruising.
If You’re Pregnant or Breastfeeding
If you’re pregnant or breast-feeding, Botox should be avoided. Again, although there is no solid proof or documented studies, it is also not known whether Botox can harm your unborn baby.
Things To Avoid After Botox
Although Botox is effective for wrinkles, crow’s-feet and frown lines, knowing what to expect post treatment is also important for the best outcome.
Lying Down
If you’re planning on taking a nap right after your appointment, you may want to hold off. It is not recommended to lie down horizontally or lie on your stomach for 4 hours after your appointment. Best to remain vertical without looking down for long periods of time.
Workouts
Skip your workout sessions for at least 24 hours. It’s best to just take it easy, especially with post-treatment bruising and redness that can often occur after Botox.
Massaging the Injection Site
You may be tempted to touch or rub the injection site. This can cause unwanted side effects such as migration in unwanted areas. Rubbing the area might cause the product to migrate little beyond the treatment area. It is best to leave it alone and allow time for the muscles to absorb the product so it can do what it was intended to do.
