Living with Rosacea

Rosacea symptoms can vary, but the following symptoms below are most common:

Flushing for no apparent reason
Persistent redness that feels like a sunburn
Bumps and pimples that sting

Red patches on the skin
Skin thickening, especially on the nose

The exact cause of rosacea has yet to be discovered.

Various specialists have different theories. Some say that rosacea may be a generalized blood vessel disorder explaining the flushes; while others claim that the stomach’s Helicobacter Pylori (a virus which produces ulcers) could be the main cause. There is also a theory that Rosacea is caused by a mite under the skin.

Although doctors feel there is no cure for Rosacea, there are ways to control and improve the symptoms.

Oral or topical prescription drugs can treat bumps and redness. Some doctors may prescribe antibiotics, followed by a long-term use of topical therapy.

These treatments can constrict and reduce the visible blood vessels, as well as lessen the redness and red patches. Impressive results are seen after 3 to 5 treatments.

Microdermabrasion and Rosacea

To understand why microdermabrasion is bad for Rosacea, you must first understand what Rosacea is.

With Rosacea, redness and small, dilated blood vessels become very visible and appears as inflammation.  With advanced rosacea, the nose may become red and swollen from excess tissue

The redness associated Rosacea becomes more persistent as the condition progresses, and you may see bumps and pimples (called papules and pustules) .

Many people mistake rosacea for acne and treat it as if it were acne.

Many rosacea sufferers will see permanent redness, inflammation or a lumpy skin texture on their face.

Some will treat these symptoms with harsh skincare products and treatments, like chemical peels, UV light therapy, dermabrasion or microdermabrasion.

These treatments may clear the skin for a while, but they will also modify the superficial blood vessels which are already severely disturbed by rosacea. Although these treatment will rid of the symptoms for a short while, you are, in effect, aggravating your condition by using such treatments.  Your rosacea will only return more aggressively.

Microdermabrasion is known for stimulating collagen production in your skin, although good for most, patients with rosacea already have over-active skin which doesn’t need further stimulation.

It should be known that any  suction treatments can cause further damage to micro blood vessels and are not advisable.

IPL Toronto- How To Treat Facial Veins

Facial veins can really affect the way you look and the way others see you.

Some facial veins are very small and are concentrated around the nose, while others are on the cheek and chin and may be combined with overall flushing of the skin called Rosacea.

If left untreated the veins will become larger in size and they don’t go away on their own.

Treating facial veins can be done two ways at Lasting Looks Anti Aging Clinic in Toronto.

The first and most common method is IPL (intense pulse light) treatment or Photo Facial on the area. Generally 3-6 treatments are necessary spaced 3 weeks apart.
