What can be done to maximize your comfort during an Ultherapy treatment?
There are several things that can help to manage any discomfort or pain a patient may experience during an Ultherapy procedure.
It is important to note that discomfort or pain during an Ultherapy treatment is relative to each patient. Although most patients are able to tolerate the Ultherapy procedure without significant pain, patients will definitely feel the ultrasound energy delivered through the skin to the muscle or targeted area. This can cause some discomfort for some, particularly in sensitive areas where the bone is closer to the skin such as the jaw or forehead.
Before an Ultherapy procedure a patient may take 2 Advil Extra strength 30 minutes prior to their appointment. Make sure that this is not done on an empty stomach. Additionally 30 minutes after taking Advil, a patient can also take 2 Tylenol Extra Strength. Both of these medications will work on different pain receptors and make the Ultherapy treatment as comfortable as possible.
A topical anesthetic cream may be used on treatments targeting the superficial layers of the skin such as the Ultherapy Glow treatment.
The Ultherapy Glow treatment focuses on the upper layer of tissue and tightens skin. When having the Ultherapy Glow treatment, a patient may prefer to have a topical numbing agent applied. The practitioner can apply a numbing cream before commencing treatment allowing it to take effect. Bear in mind that this will add length to the time required for your treatment.
After an Ultherapy session there is no downtime required, discomfort will minimize. When treating the deeper tissue, some patients may experience slight redness or tenderness if the treated area is pressed. These effects are temporary and will resolve themselves quickly.
