With all the products on the market claiming to completely remove tattoos, we frequently are asked which one works.
Lasting Looks Anti Aging and Laser Clinic has been successfully removing tattoos for over 15 years, and we can honestly tell you that topical creams and gels will NOT remove a tattoo.
The reason for this is that; the ink in your tattoo has been placed under the skin with the tattoo needle, not on the surface.
Any cream or gel that claims to remove a tattoo will only fade your skins surface, with an acid such as Glycolic. Some creams contain Hydroquinone, which is a skin-lightening agent. Hydroquinone targets the melanin in the skin and is made to fade or lighten darker skin spots.
We have often seen patients with extreme sensitivity, redness and swelling of the area where the creams have been used. This may also lead to additional scarring. These products will also make the area more sun sensitive leading to quicker sunburns.
At Lasting Looks Anti Aging and Laser Clinic we believe in doing what works. The answer is either Laser Tattoo Removal, non-laser tattoo removal or surgical excision of the tattoo. Tattoo removal takes time, as the skin needs to heal in between sessions. So if you have a target date in mind such as a wedding or vacation, give yourself as much time as possible between starting your treatment and the event date so that the tattoo will be gone and properly healed. Since no two tattoos are alike, they will all react differently to treatments and the amount of time needed.
