Stretch marks are small tears in the dermis that result when the fat or muscle beneath the skin is growing at a faster rate than the skin itself.
Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a form of scarring on the skin with an off-color hue. Gradually, stretch marks enlarge in length and width and become a reddish or purple color. Once the stretch marks have matured, they lose their reddish/pink hue, and start to fade becoming pale white or silver.
IPL targets pigment, and uses intense pulsed light to penetrate below the skin’s surface, targeting melanin or any redness within the scar.
IPL or Photo Rejuvenation delivers a range of light that not only targets skin issues such as red stretch marks, but also targets brown spots, freckles and cherry angiomas. The whiter the stretch mark or if there are any texture irregularities in the scar, the lower the response rate to IPL.
Treatments of stretch marks may take up to 3-6 sessions to see improvement.
Micro needling can also help to improve the texture and appearance of stretch marks.
