The Dermapen and Dermaroller treatments are forms of micro needling. Both devices are used to stimulate the production of new collagen by creating micro channels in the skin.
Although both treatments are beneficial for skin tightening, there some distinct differences between both.
The shape and design varies from one to the other. The biggest difference between them is that the Derma Roller is manually operated, while the Dermapen is electronically operated.
The Dermaroller has approximately 200 fine surgical steel needles, attached to a roller device. The Dermaroller is manually rolled over the skin’s surface in a crisscross pattern, causing controlled micro injuries, to stimulate growth factors, while promoting collagen and elastin to form.
The derma rolling treatment is especially beneficial for patients with deep wrinkles and acne scars, since the Dermaroller can be used more aggressively to manually restructure and resurface resistant hypertrophic and keloid scarring.
One advantage that the Derma stamp pen has, is the flexibility of adjusting needle depth between 0 to 2.5 mm to accommodate any region of the body and face, to customize a treatment to best suit the patient’s requirements.
The Derma Pens smaller tip is easier to maneuver around hard to reach areas like the eyes, nose and upper lip, where it is more difficult to reach with traditional Dermaroller. This electrical device also has a high-speed motor that quickly sends vertical needle penetrations across the skin, making this a quicker and more comfortable treatment than the standard manual Dermaroller.
The benefits of both micro-needling treatments are equal and include:
- Improvement fine lines and wrinkles
- Tightening and improving skin tone
- Promoting collagen and elastin production
- Reducing the appearance of acne scarring, pigmentation and stretch marks
The down time for both microneedling treatments are equal and patients will leave their practitioner’s office flushed in color while the redness will subside after 48-72 hours. Patients are advised to completely stay out of the sun completely to avoid hyperpigmentation.
Results will become more evident within a few days as well as the following weeks after the treatment. Results tend to continue to improve for up to 6 months after the treatment.
