Alcohol has direct effects on platelet function, which can cause your blood to form a clot. This can thin your blood just like aspirin, which can cause bruising and swelling.
With any injection, there are risks such as pain, bleeding, bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness, and infection. Consumption of alcohol before your treatment may increase the chance of bruising despite the skill of the practitioner.

Recently Dr. David Ellis MD, FRCSC, FACS, a Toronto facial plastic surgeon and professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of Otolaryngology was interviewed speaking on the topic of Botox.

Dr. Ellis explained how after 30 years in practice, he has seen Botox grow in popularity, expanding from those in their 40s and 50s to those in their 20s and 30s. “People keep coming back, they like it so much. They become addictive to the result! ”

He continued by stating the importance of choosing an experienced professional when having Botox injections. Dr. David Ellis explained several scenarios where a complication could occur if the Botox was not put in the right area or if certain considerations were not taken into account beforehand. On the matter of injecting Botox into the forehead muscles and causing an asymmetrical eyebrow, Dr. Ellis was quoted saying “Many doctors and nurses who perform the procedure don’t look at the muscle before they inject…To see the muscle, you have the patient move it and then record it. With some people, the outside part of the muscle is much wider, so when you raise it, you get more wrinkling just above the lateral part of the eyebrow, and if that’s not treated you get the Spocking effect. They come back and they’re upset, but the treatment is easy — just a little drop on each side.”

Dr. Ellis also stressed the need for patients to do research on their practitioner in regards to Botox injections “Make sure they specialize in the procedure you want. Are eyelids their area of expertise rather than nose jobs? Interview the doctor. Will you be happy with this doctor treating you if you have a complication? That’s the crux of it.”
