An area that is most often overlooked in facial rejuvenation is the temple area. Hollowness and volume loss in the temples begins in our mid-30’s and progresses from there.
Although most temples do have a slight concavity, too much concavity changes the shape or silhouette of the face and can cause it to look elongated. Hollowing of the temples also creates a skeletal appearance at the outer part of the eye socket, giving the appearance that the outer brow is drooping. The eyes can also appear less open.
Although this hollowness can occur from bone loss, age and genetics, men and women that are extremely athletic, experience hollowness from weight loss in the temple area as well.
The good news is that temple rejuvenation not only makes you look better, but is commonly corrected without surgery.
Dermal fillers will enhance not only the temples, but it will also create a lifting of the corners of the cheek as volume is restored thus creating a more youthful balanced face.
Another advantage to filling temples is that a fuller temple makes the outer eyebrow lengthen and become more visible, giving the impression of a lifting and lengthening of the eye.
The most common treatment methods for hollow temples are fat augmentation, and injectable fillers. Dermal Fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane or Teosyal are Hyaluronic Acid based and can last up to 2 years dependent on the type of filler chosen.
Typically 1 syringe of dermal filler is injected into each temple. Up to 2 syringes per side may be required to correct severely concave temples. Results are immediate and last about 12 months.
Dermal Filler can be injected either deep along the bone of the temples or superficially. Although there is no downtime, there can be minor swelling in the area for a few days, since the temple area is thin and extremely vascular.
