Botox, one of the most popular anti-aging treatments out there and one of the most misconstrued. There are many misconceptions that surround Botox, and these can confuse someone who is wondering whether or not to have Botox injections.
Let us address 5 of the Top Misconceptions about Botox.
The 1st misconception, is that Botox will leave you expressionless. This is false.
It’s true that we have all seen the few celebrities who have had too much Botox resulting in no movement and frozen a look. This is not typical of a Botox treatment. Botox is a FDA approved neuromodulator which relaxes the overactive muscles that cause frowning, crow’s feet, and chin puckering etc. Administering the appropriate amount of Botox through a trained professional to the desired area will allow movement of the necessary muscles and stop overactive muscles. Therefore your expression will still be you, just without the fine lines.
2nd misconception, Botox is addictive. There are no addictive properties in Botox. Botox results are temporary, wearing off naturally after 3-4 months. If the use of Botox is discontinued, gradually wrinkles will slowly return over time as the aging process continues. Patients that are happy with their results and want to maintain them generally have regular Botox treatments at normal intervals for upkeep. It is up to the patient to decide when and if they would like to have their Botox done again.
The 3rd misconception, Botox is toxic. Botox is the purified protein version of the Botulinum toxin. Although Botox is not toxic, there are inferior brands of neuromodulators, misleadingly called “Botox”. These products do not have FDA approval and can cause damage. Take your time finding a reputable practitioner and make sure if you are getting Botox injections that the practitioner is using the the FDA approved brand Botox by Allergan.
Our 4th misconception is that Botox is painful. When receiving Botox, patients can expect to feel a needle as it is injected into the skin, however this is momentary and there is no continued discomfort or pain of any sort. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, Botox can be administered with little to no discomfort and with little to no bruising.
The 5th and last misconception is that Botox is only for one kind of person. Botox is for anyone and everyone age appropriate who wants to stop wrinkles or to start preventative Botox. Both men and women of various backgrounds and ages can benefit from Botox.
