Scar Resurfacing & Scar Removal Toronto

Scars caused by accidents, surgery or laser therapy can also leave the skin de-pigmented or white. This occurs to a lack of melanocytes in the newly healed collagen. Melanin is what gives skin its colour.

The Depigmentation of skin areas and scar areas can be improved in 2 ways:

  1. Pigment Re-activation (P.R.)
  2. Permanent Cosmetic Camouflage

Pigment Re-activation

Pigment Re-activation, before and after

The process of Pigment Re-activation is revolutionizing all concepts of camouflaging hypopigmented skin. Scar Repigmentation pursues a remedy for the cause rather than a mere treatment of the symptom.

This revolutionary technique called Pigment Re-activation restimulates the melanocytes and restructures the collagen in the depigmented area. Melanocyte cells can reappear, and, what was formerly a non-pigmented "white", would return the patients "natural pigmentation", with a 100% match of skin tone. Ultimately this would create the "perfect camouflage".

Pigment Re-activation has a 80% success rate in returning the depigmented area to its normal skin tone. However in deeply pigmented areas (i.e. very white areas) P.R. may not be enough to improve the color. If Pigment Re-activation is not an option then the recommended alternative procedure would then be Permanent Cosmetic Camouflage.

Permanent Cosmetic Camouflage

With this technique, scars are camouflaged with permanent intradermal cosmetics or Permanent Cosmetics also known as Scar Camouflage. This would colour the area to make it appear as close to the natural skin as possible, but it must be understood that matches are rarely perfect.

Choosing this procedure would involve ongoing colour maintenance and adjustments every few years due to natural exfoliation of the skin and fading of the pigments used. The patients must be aware that the pigments used in camouflage have a built in sunblock known as Titanium Dioxide so that the treated scar does not change colour as does the adjacent skin during the changing seasons.
