Laser Hair Removal Toronto Etobicoke

HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

Laser hair removal removes unwanted hair permanently by targeting and damaging the root of the hair. The laser itself is attracted to pigment or colour. Assuming there is a good contrast between the skin and the hair, the laser damages the root and leaves behind a small stem.

Over the next 2-3 weeks, it will appear as if the hairs are growing when actually the skin is naturally pushing this stem up and out. If you were to pull at these hairs with your fingers (not tweezers) 2-3 weeks after the treatment these hairs slide out with no resistance at all. Once these hairs fall out there will be a period where there is very little hair.

The reason why you would require more than one treatment is there are different cycles of hair growth. Ideally, we want to be able to attack the hair during the active stage of hair growth (anagen stage) which is when the hair follicle has a full root. Because we don't know which hairs are in right stage at one time, that is the only reason why you would need more than one treatment. Normally 5-7 treatments are required for best results.

Laser Hair Removal, before and after

Laser Hair Removal is used to remove the hair follicle is called selective photo-thermolysis. It involves selecting an intended target, melanin, which is present in all hair follicles.

The Hair Laser uses a wavelength of light specific to the melanin that passes harmlessly through the top layer of the skin (epidermis) and is absorbed maximally by the melanin in the hair follicle and minimally by any other tissue.

This permanent method of laser hair removal is used by men and women to remove hair from the upper lip, chin, neck, back, chest, underarms, bikini line and legs.

After The Laser Hair Removal Procedure

Following laser hair removal, the target area treated with the laser is cleansed and normal activity can be resumed. There may be a slight reddening surrounding the follicles, but this will disappear in a matter of minutes in majority of cases. As with any treatment involving lasers, protect the treated skin with sun block and clothing.

In the weeks following laser hair removal, hair may appear to be growing in the treated areas. Because the hair follicles are lifeless, this, in fact, is simply the body attempting to cast them off to get rid of them. They will easily purge themselves.

Hair not in its growth cycle cannot be targeted by laser hair removal. It is very important not to, pluck or bleach the hair before the treatment as it is necessary for the root of the hair to be targeted and the pigment of the hair to be visible to the hair removal laser.

More treatments may be required in order to obtain the results desired, and will depend on hair density, hair color, skin types, the treatment area, and your hair growth cycle.

In only one treatment 30%-50% of the hair can be removed. Just think, no more stubble!
