Vanity is not exclusively
a woman's do-
main, confirms Janice Began, owner of Last-
ing Looks, an Etobicoke clinic specializing in
anti-aging techniques and permanent make-
up. In a competitive employment market, a
youthful appearance can help clinch job se-
curity for women and men.
"My clientele is 30%
male and it's steadily
increasing," she says. "They're conscious of
the threat of being replaced by younger guys
at work."
Lunch hours are busy at
her Royal York
Rd.-Bloor St. clinic.
"People walk In here
for a variety of treat-
ments," explains Regan, a certified dermati-
cian who works in conjunction with Dr. Ellis.
"They request Botox, peels, scrubs, as well
as injections for wrinkles and fuller lips.
"We apply medicated
make-up to cover up
the redness after injections, ladies put
their lipstick back on and they head right
back to work. People leave here looking
up to 10 years younger."
Botox treatments take three
days to
kick in, she says, and typically last four
to six months.
The most popular female
request on
the lunch-time menu is enhanced upper
lips.
"The treatment gives
them back the
fuller upper lip they once had and pumps
up the tiny wrinkles above the mouth,"
Regan explains. "Some women want the
bottom lip done as well to achieve a sexy
pout."
Eyelash enhancement is another
hot
procedure. Using a gentle tattooing
technique, Regan fills in the spaces between
lashes to give them a full look. The cost is
$450.
"It's a quick, permanent
make-up that's
selling big-time," she says.
The full-lash look is popular
among swim-
mers and older members of the population
who aren't comfortable applying mascara
due to poor eyesight or stiff, arthritic limbs,
Regan adds.
Science has even come up
with an ender-
mology machine designed to temporarily re-
move cellulite without surgery.
"It's a patented technique
developed in
France," Regan explains. "Sessions last 30
to 35 minutes and, unlike liposuction, it
doesn't involve breaking the skin. Suction
and motorized rollers massage the skin,
stimulate the lymphatic system and release
toxins. Clients drink a lot of water to flush
them away."
Other popular lunch-hour
requests in-
clude lazer hair removal, spider vein treat-
ments, clinical peels and mircrodermabra-
sion.
